How To Decorate An Armoire’s Top

I recently helped a friend with her armoire top ideas. I thought I’d write a post to share the details.

There are many different ways to arrange things in an armoire. I like three of my favorites. The first option is to put a larger, flatter item against the wall and then to place different-height items before it.

I like the way the items in the front fall in size. The basket is roughly half the width of the sheep picture. The front can be decorated with a boxwood wreath.

Another arrangement I love is to use clusters of nearly identical, but differing-height items. This is what they did with these green, glazed jugs.

Here’s another example: They used three glass bottles, but changed the color in the middle and highlighted it with live leaves.

Happy Tuesday

I recently helped a friend with her armoire top ideas. I thought I’d write a post to share the details.

(source unknown).

Here’s another example of a large, flatter piece at the back and some smaller items at the front.

(French Country Cottage).

I also love the way that the items in the front decrease in size. The basket is roughly half the width of the sheep picture. The front can be decorated with a boxwood wreath.

Another arrangement I love is to use clusters of almost identical but different-height items. This is what they did with these green, glazed jugs.

Another example of similarity is this: They used three glass bottles, but altered their color and highlighted the middle one with live foliage.

You could also try this technique if the height between the ceiling and your armoire is too low. It involves three items. A bucket, low basket, and faux floral stems. They cascade across the basket’s edge.

It’s so easy and stunning!

Here’s one more example of how to group items.

The hat hangs off the corner. I love that the clear glass glasses jugs aren’t in the way of the artwork. The antler sculpture balances perfectly the vignette because it is the exact same color as hat. Also, it’s a perfect scale. It is not as tall and narrow as the artwork, but it is not as large as the largest glass bowl. It is also visually light, which makes it a great match for the visually light (because they are transparent) jugs. Personaly, I’d remove the large, white frame behind the black one. But, other than that, this is an excellent example of visually balanced and interesting groupings!

Let’s see, how about you? Are you decorating the top of an armory lately? I would love to know about the decorations you made!
